Over 200 students at Ruiru Technical and Vocational College (TVC) are poised to gain from a Sh3 million scholarship granted through the Ruiru National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF). This initiative aims to enhance access to technical education and empower young individuals with practical skills for the job market.
The scholarship cheque was handed over by Ruiru Member of Parliament Simon King’ara during his visit to the institution in Gatong’ora. He emphasized his dedication to promoting technical and vocational education as an essential factor in empowering youth and fostering economic development.
Speaking during the event, the legislator said the scholarship programme was part of his pledge to ensure deserving students from the constituency are able to pursue technical training without being hindered by financial constraints.
“This morning, as promised, we delivered a scholarship cheque worth Sh3 million, courtesy of Ruiru NG-CDF, to Ruiru Technical and Vocational College in Gatong’ora. The scholarship will benefit more than 200 students pursuing various courses at the institution,” said the MP.
He noted that investment in technical and vocational education remains one of the most effective ways of preparing young people for employment, self-employment, and entrepreneurship, adding that the government continues to prioritize skills development as a pillar of economic transformation.
After presenting the scholarship, the MP toured the institution and inspected several training workshops, where students were undertaking practical lessons in different fields.
He visited Fashion and Design, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Plumbing, Electrical Engineering, and Cosmetology, among other training sections, and commended the college for providing industry-oriented training that equips learners with relevant technical competencies.
The legislator observed that technical institutions play a critical role in producing a skilled workforce capable of meeting the country’s growing demand for artisans, technicians, and innovators across various sectors of the economy.
He encouraged students to remain focused on their studies and make full use of the opportunities available through technical training, noting that practical skills have become increasingly valuable in the modern labour market.
The scholarship is expected to ease the financial burden on beneficiaries while enabling them to complete their studies and contribute meaningfully to the socioeconomic development of Ruiru Constituency and the country at large.
