Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Eng. Kipkemoi Kibias has denied claims that he delayed or influenced the recruitment of the company’s substantive CEO to remain in office.

In a statement, Kibias refuted the allegations, asserting that the recruitment process has been carried out in accordance with established legal and corporate governance procedures, which he has adhered to in his capacity as acting head of the state corporation.

“I want to make it absolutely clear that any claims implying I postponed or swayed the recruitment process to remain in an acting role or gain an advantage from the position are completely untrue and lack any factual support,” he stated.

Kibias also challenged reports that he had applied for the position during the second recruitment process, stating that the claims were made without reaching out for his input.

He stated that he was not reached out to for confirmation regarding his application submission prior to the publication of the reports, leading to the spread of incorrect information.

He attributed delays in concluding the recruitment process to ongoing court proceedings, which affected the KETRACO Board’s quorum and its ability to complete the exercise within the expected timelines.

Kibias said these were legal and governance issues that were beyond his control.

He added that his priority throughout his tenure as acting managing director has been to ensure continuity of the company’s operations while providing stable leadership.

Kibias said he remains committed to supporting the completion of the recruitment process once the KETRACO Board is fully constituted and able to discharge its mandate.
