Kirinyaga, Kenya – On Saturday morning, the body of an Embu University student who had been reported missing earlier in the week was found in a coffee farm in Ngiriambu village, Kirinyaga East Sub-County.
Prior to the discovery of her remains, Jackline Ruguru, the deceased, had been missing for approximately a week. The discovery was made, according to locals, after dogs repeatedly returned to the plantation, prompting villagers to investigate.
The body was partially decomposed, according to eyewitnesses. The head looked disturbed and disfigured, which could indicate a violent cause of death. According to another resident, a hand was missing.
Possible Motive and Community Reaction.
A “love gone sour” argument may have been the cause of the murder, according to some community members. Ruguru’s father, several friends, and acquaintances said she was “in high spirits” before her disappearance, indicating that there was no apparent stress in her life.
Leaders and residents have vehemently denounced the act. Timothy Kariuki, a local, said, “If there are any differences in a relationship, please find amicable ways of solving the issues instead of killing.”
Investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ruguru’s death has started, according to Kirinyaga East sub-county police commissioner Wachira Mukuha.
Musa Kiura, Ruguru’s father, expressed deep sorrow; after his daughter failed to return home from a trip, he filed a missing persons report. He claimed that since she had returned home in excellent spirits and there were no known conflicts, the family had no reason to suspect anything was wrong.
With no confirmed arrests made yet, the police are expected to carry out a post-mortem (autopsy) to determine the cause of death of the young student. According to reports, investigators are looking into leads and potential suspects, including phone records. Her cell phone was discovered and given to the police, according to relatives.
