The Kenya Railways Corporation has launched a brand new train service for all residents in Limuru and areas around it.
The new services will began operations on Monday the 17th of May 2021, will be operational in the morning and evening hours, granting its commuters access to the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) and also providing convenience.
The new train service will carry out stops at Dagoretti, Kibera, and Kikuyu, with the first train taking off from Limuru Town at 5:30am with an expected arrival time of 7:52am.
The evening train will be leaving the Nairobi Central station at 5:50pm to arrive at the Lukenya Railway station at 7:52pm.
The the current schedule the train will be having a 2 minute stop at each station it arrives at in order to ensure that there is an efficiency in it meeting the times that have been set.
The Kenya Railways made it known that all commuters who wish to utilize the commuter train, will be charged 80 Kenyan Shillings for each trip.
The new route will also be adding on to the existing services with the route to Lukenya which was recently launched and where commuters are being charged 100 Kenyan Shillings per every trip.
The train services to Embakasi Village station, Athi River station, Ruiru station, Kikuyu station and Syokimau station are in operation as well.
The Kenya Railways has over the past couple of months, made moves aimed at increasing its operations within the Nairobi metropolitan area as well as the entire country.
Based on its plan, the Kenya Railways will be extending its services to Thika Town, as well as Nyeri with the construction of the Chaka Railway Station which has already reached an advanced stage.
A statement from the Kenya Railways revealed that, “Once completed the station will serve Chaka Township which is a strategic trading centre in Nyeri County.”
The Kenya Railways is also refurbishing a total number of 31 trains ahead of the launch of the much anticipated Nairobi to Kisumu train service.
A statement from the Kenya Railways made it known that, “Among the 31 locomotives, 9 are being rehabilitated and 22 others are undergoing an overhaul under the partnership between Kenya Railways and Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).”
