Popular estate in Nairobi; Kilimani has now been ranked as one of the best neighborhoods in the world. This is another stamp of approval for the East African nation of Kenya with regards to its tourism sector.
A recent ranking by Time Out placed Kilimani as the Number One estate in Africa and the 28th in the world out of a total of 51 entries on the list.
Time Out describes itself as the ultimate guide to the best art and entertainment, food and drink, attractions, hotels and things to do in the world’s greatest cities.

Kilimani was hailed for its high spirited heritage and energetic nightlife with its variety of restaurants, bars, and clubs.
An except from the survey by Time Out stated that, “This is where “Nairobi is going to party. (Kilimani) is bursting with vibrant art and entertainment atmosphere.”

The list by Time Out also looked at other aspects like its culture, the level of accessibility, its nightlife, the quality and affordability of drinks and food in the area, how vibrant its street life is and of course the energy in the community.
The second African neighborhood on Time Out’s List, was Sea Point in Cape Town ranking 38th. Sea Point which was described as a suburb with an oceanfront with its own local businesses, was also hailed for its elegant sunset views.

According to Time Out, “A suggested perfect day in the ‘hood includes a morning swim at the Sea Point Pavilion, a visit to Mojo Market, and shopping on Regent Street for a beach picnic for lunch.”
It added that, “Follow that with ocean kayaking, a late afternoon stroll on the boardwalk, and a meal at La Perla while watching the sunset.”
The third and final African neighborhood on Time Out’s list was Lagos, Nigeria’s very own Festac Town. It was 50th on the list. Festac Town which is also known as the ‘Festival City’, was also hailed for its urban lifestyle which was termed as being contemporary.

The best neighborhood in the world according to Time Out, is Mexico’s Guadalajara. Guadalajara which is also referred to as ‘Colonial Americana’. Time Out’s ranking described Guadalajara as the epicenter of the Mexican underground scene.
In the words of Time Out, “It’s an edgy mix of art deco and neoclassical mansions with artist squats and warehouses that house some of the city’s best music venues.”

Kenya’s Kilimani, is where you can find Uhuru Park and the famous hilly hiking trails in the Nairobi Arboretum. It is also home to the Freedom Corner memorial which was created in honour of the victims of the 1950s colonial regime.
A number of the modern day African artists also showcase their art at the Kuona Artists Collective. The FCB Mihrab which is located at the junction of Lenana Road and Kilimani Ring Road, provides a contemporary perspective on Islamic architecture.

Kilimani is also home to the popular Yaya Centre Mall which is surrounded by worldwide restaurants and stylish cafes.
