East Africa’s low cost airline; Jambojet has secured the Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority’s approval to commence flights to Rwanda’s capital; Kigali.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jambojet; Mr. Allan Kivaluka, stated that the airline has also secured the rights to fly to Goma in DRC, as well as Mogadishu in Somalia.
The low cost, pocket friendly airline acquired a new De Havilland Dash 8 – Q400 aircraft as well. The acquisition brings the total number of airplanes used by Jambi jet, to 6.
The new De Havilland Dash 8 – Q400 aircraft is also the first of four aircrafts set to be delivered to Jambojet this year (2019) in a bid to boost the airline’s capacity as it looks to gain entry into more destinations across the continent of Africa.
The new aircraft gives Jambojet the title of the airline with the youngest fleet in the continent of Africa with 3.7 years as its an average age.
Jambojet has already begun embarking on an East African expansion drive with destinations such as Burundi’s capital Bujumbura and Entebbe in Uganda.
The airline also plies 5 destinations which are including Eldoret, Kisumu, Malindi, Mombasa and Ukunda.
Even with Jambojet’s expansion drive however, data from the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) data has revealed that low cost airlines only account for a quarter of all flights worldwide.
In Africa, low cost flights account for less than 10 percent. This means that the aviation sector in Africa, still has plenty of opportunities for growth and with Jambojet’s safety standards as well as its low cost business model, the airline is bound to benefit from such opportunities.
