According to reports, Walt Disney’s entire Direct To Consumer (DTC) subscriptions hit an impressive 221.1 million for its fiscal third (3rd) quarter which ended in June of 2022. This was a significant achievement for Disney+, as well as its parent company.
The company’s streaming services has also surpassed American subscription streaming service and production company; Netflix. Netflix had most recently released a report making it known that it had hit a total of 220.67 million subscribers globally.
Netflix does not currently offer any bundles.
Disney currently counts the subscribers to Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) bundles, as one (1) for each service being included. This means that all subscribers of Hulu Live TV and the Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) bundles are counted as one each for Hulu Live TV plus Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) bundles, Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) and Disney+.

The earnings release by Disney stated that, “When we aggregate the total number of paid subscribers across our DTC streaming services, we refer to them as paid subscriptions.”
Disney’s subscription numbers include Hulu (including Live TV) at 46.2 million, ESPN+ at 22.8 million, and Disney+ at 152 million.
It is expected that Disney will lose a number of subscribers along the way after losing a bidding war for the rights to stream crickets in India where a a significant portion of Disney+ subscribers are located at.
While the numbers might fluctuate a bit, it is just a reflection of just how volatile the streaming industry is.
The subscription streaming service and production company; Netflix has for the longest time, been on the throne for the longest time. When it announced that it had experienced a loss of 200,000 subscribers in the first (1st) quarter of 2022, observers were shocked. The company took it a step further to state that an even bigger drop in subscribers by as much as 2 million could occur during the second quarter.

When the loss recorded was less than 1 million subscribers (around 970,000 subscribers to be exact), it was seen by the platform as a significant win. Observers believe the fourth (4th) season of Stranger Things which was released in May of 2022, contributed to the ‘win’.
It is however still Netflix’s largest sub loss since its inception.
Netflix which is currently being run by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO); Reed Hastings and its Chief Executive Officer (CEO); Ted Sarandos is currently in the process of launching a new streaming tier which will be ad-supported.
