For the not so casual user the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus might just be everything you would need in a modern day smartphone. Especially if you have a bit more spending power and can work your way around its quite large display.
Although released in on the 8th of March 2019, this smartphone is a really powerful flagship. Mpesapay decided to write about this device because with the announcement and release of the newer S20 models the S10 Plus via discounts will be a lot more affordable now and really worth you considering.
With no further ado, let’s get down to it!
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has a Super AMOLED display with a size of 6.4 inches, an aspect ratio of 19:9, and a really impressive screen to body ratio of 93.1 percent. This means that the Samsung Galaxy S10 is able to fit much more pixels on a much tighter body.
As large as its screen size is, it is not even the largest Samsung Galaxy S10 variant. The Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite and Samsung Galaxy S10 5G both take the crown with their screen sizes of 6.7 inches.
As a result of the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus’ screen to body ratio of 93.1 percent, the pixels now go from the small top speaker of the device, down to its thin bottom chin, and over the curved left and right edges. This resulted in the creation of one of the best looking and most impressive screens available in today’s smartphone market.
Resolution wise the Samsung Galaxy S10 has a Full HD+ default resolution. Users can however change the settings to QHD+. The display is quite sharp with the HDR10+ for way better colour and contrast. If you enjoy watching a lot of visual content on your smartphone; series, movies, etc, you will most certainly enjoy the display on this device.
The Infinity-O display means that Samsung did not go for the notch but instead decided to go with a laser cut hole for the front camera, at the top-right corner of the display.
Because of the Samsung Galaxy S10’s two front cameras the hole in the Infinity-O display is quite large. The lack of bezels however means that users might end up making accidental touches on the screen with their palms. That is something many users will not mind.
In the battery department the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus packs a powerful 4100mAh battery which Samsung claims can last for an entire day and a bit more. This is quite possible on light use. Extra features like switching the display from Full HD+ to QHD+, would most likely lead to the battery lasting for less time.
It also has a variety of power saving modes which range from maximum power saving (this feature locks down the User Interface and gives the user access to only a few essential applications that they choose and makes sure you get up to additional hours with 30 percent or below of battery), to other modes. It also supports fast charging.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has a quite impressive camera category. It comes with a triple lens main camera set up consisting of a 12 Megapixel camera with an aperture of f/1.5, a 12 Megapixel camera with an aperture of f/1.5, and a 16 Megapixel camera with an aperture of f/2.2. This triple lens set up takes everything from normal, to even ultra-wide photos, telephoto photos, and gives users the option of Phase Detection AutoFocus.
For the front camera department this device, comes with a 10 Megapixel camera with a f/1.9 aperture and an 8 Megapixel camera with a f/2.2 aperture dual camera set up. It is a given that the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus’ two front cameras capture much better portrait photos or selfies than the single-lens front camera on Samsung Galaxy S10 and Samsung Galaxy S10e front cameras.
Its front camera set up also supports Autofocus.
Under the front of the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus’ glass, is its ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. It is able to take a 3D scan of your fingerprint and is a very accurate fingerprint scanner even if your hand or finger is wet. One downside is that more pressure is required. Another is that it is slower.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus also comes with a face unlock feature which is faster than the fingerprint sensor so if speed is your preference, you might consider using that instead.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus runs on Google’s Android 9.0 Operating System (OS), and the One UI (User Interface) skin.
Design wise the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has an aluminum frame that is in between its Gorilla Glass 6. The back of the device has a super clean look, except for the subtle bump in the camera area. It is also where its wireless charging charging module is situated.
It is quite easy to hold which is a pleasant surprise considering its Plus name and size. Just ensure that you type with both hands if you have smaller hands.
On the left side on the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus the volume button sits above the dedicated button for Bixby; Samsung’s Smart Assistant which as is already implied, lets you start up the assistant and gain access to its Today screen and voice commands. The only downside is that you might end up mistakenly using the Bixby button when you were actually going for the volume button. This is why Samsung now allows users to re-assign the Bixby button.
The 3.5mm headphone jack which is still a consumer favorite till this day.
It has a Compass or Magnetometer sensor, an Accelerometer Sensor, a Proximity Sensor, a Barometer sensor, a Gyroscope Sensor, and an Ambient Light Sensor, a 1.9GHz octacore Samsung Exynos 9820 processor, an 8GB RAM, an internal storage of 128GB with a memory card slot that is expandable to up to 512GB.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus supports wifi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/Yes), GPS, Bluetooth version 5.0, USB Type-C, NFC, two nano SIM card slots, and 4G on both SIM card slots.
This device supports Wireless charging. All you need to do is set up your Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus via settings to ‘PowerShare’. Once done, you will be able to place the other device (smartwatch, headphones or smartphone) on top of yours to boost it up or Qi-charge it with a little amount of battery. The other device however, has to support wireless charging.
Imagine being able to wirelessly charge another smartphone with yours. Cool right?
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus comes in Prism Black, Ceramic Black, Prism White, Ceramic White, Prism Blue, Flamingo Pink, and Prism Green colours.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus redefined the standard for phablets when it was released. It still has some of the best features available in and for smartphones today.
As at the time this article was compiled on the 9th of November 2020, the price of the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus stood at 61,900 Kenyan Shillings. You can check out this device on Jumia via this link:
