Since 2017 Snapchat’s CEO Evan Spiegel, has been promising a complete reconstruction of the ‘problematic’ Snapchat Android app and in February 2019, he said that the new app would be released before the end of the year.
Finally that new beginning for Snapchat on Android is upon us as just after the announcement of the assortment of new features announced during the Snap Partner Summit 2019, the company has announced on Twitter that the “new, faster” app is ready to go.
Android Authority sat down with Snapchat’s Senior Vice President, Jerry Hunter who shared more about the Snapchat for Android problem. “We found, towards the end of nine months that it was sort of asymptotically harder to create more improvement and it was still not good enough. That was a really a consequence of a code base that had just been built,” he said.

This discovery, prompted the company to do something dramatic. Snapchat decided to rewrite the entire app from the ground up, in order to let Snapchat utilize the hardwares on every android smartphone to their fullest potentials on every. The challenge was to build an Android app that works well on flagship devices.
What Snapchat had been doing prior to this decision, was simply patching the problems on Snapchat for Android.
Jerry Hunter also added that Snapchat is now running tests on a much broader set of test devices, which will further ensure that future updates will work as expected.
After signing into the app for the first time in a long while, it doesn’t not look like much has changed visually, I mean there is virtually no changes to the user interface for the new app, but the app should be faster, free from the performance issues of the past and less bug infested than before.

This is big for Snapchat as they have decided to completely revamp on the inside how the Snapchat app works for Android.
