The Republic of Rwanda made it known it will be replacing its single nation passports, with the East Africa Community (EAC) electronic passports.
Rwanda’s immigration department during an announcement revealed that it has started the phasing out of all single nation passports and will be done with the exercise, by June 2021 and added that all applicants should make use of the Rwandan government’s online portal during their e-passport applications.
The Director-General of Rwanda’s immigration department made it known that all the single nation passports will be replaced by the Rwanda East Africa Community (EAC) electronic passports by the 27th of June 2021.
Starting from June 2019 all holders of the Rwandan single nation passport were given a two (2) year period to replace their passports, with the Rwandan government stating that the change is line with the East Africa Community (EAC)’s commitment towards the bolstering of regional integration.
In 2016 members of the East Africa Community (EAC) passed a resolution for the issuing of the East Africa Community (EAC) electronic passports during a summit in March of that year. Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda have all already launched electronic passports devoid of harsh visa requirements and with access to more countries.
