According to recent reports, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is gearing up to auction cargoes that have overstayed at the Mombasa port. Said cargoes include over 200 vehicles, along with numerous other assorted goods all belonging to owners who have either failed to pay their taxes or have been unable to.
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has set the date for the auction for sometime this week. All interested bidders will be invited to take a look at the goods. A public notice including the total details of the auction was published on Monday the 21st of June 2021.
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) made it known via the notice that it is looking to auction different types of cars and imported goods that have overstayed in various customs warehouses at the port city of Mombasa.
The public notice states that the auction will take place this week on Wednesday the 23rd of June 2021 and Thursday the 24th of June 2021.
The importers of said goods that will be auctioned have been given a Grace Period of up until the Day One of the auction to pay the duty fee(s) which range from 200,000 Kenyan Shillings to several millions of Kenyan Shillings.
A series of consolidated cargoes have also been listed for auction. Said consolidated cargoes constitute a significant portion of the lots which are scheduled for auction and are owned by smaller traders who carry out importations via proxies which pose as clearing agents that either defraud them or take a considerably long period of time before paying the fees required to clear any cargo.
On Monday the 21st of June 2021, the interested buyers paid visits to various warehouses to asses the goods ahead of the auction.
