The Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA); James Mburu’s term has been extended by the Treasury Cabinet Secretary; Ukur Yattani to five (5) years through the addition of two (2) years. With this development, James Mburu who recently completed his three (3) year term, will now serve as the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)’s Commissioner General for a total of five (5) years.
Before taking on the mantle of leadership at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in July 2019 (following the retirement of John Njiraini) James Mburu, was the Commissioner of Intelligence and Strategic Operations.
A report by the Standard revealed that the extension of the Commissioner General’s term was approved by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)’s board in a bid to allow the government agency have more time to implement and further develop its various strategies.
According to Standard an insider at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) said, “The board felt three years are not enough to work effectively. Again, we are doing what regional countries have. Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda’s heads of revenue have their terms which are similar hence the need to change ours too.”
Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials will also from now henceforth, will now retire at 60 years of age.
