The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has begun the refurbishing of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya’s capital; Nairobi. The project which will go on for a year, is intended to improve the overall experience of travellers.
The 963 Million Kenyan Shillings upgrade of Terminal 1B and Terminal 1C, will result in the renovation of departure halls which will in turn improve security scanning, passenger lounge experience, check-ins, and retail operations.
In statement released on Thursday the 7th of January 2021 the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said, “It will also increase passenger flow and increase efficiency due to centralisation of security screening procedures and the reallocation of available floor spaces to international departure gates.”
As a result of the upgrades all travelers will be required to be at the airport at least four hours before their flight departure time.
All airlines which have been operating from the two affected terminals have subsequently been relocated to Terminal 1A and Terminal 2, for the meantime.
The Managing Director of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA); Alex Gitari, “The remodeling project is an integral part of the ongoing JKIA Customer Service Improvement Plan which was formulated from feedback from our stakeholders and customers.”
The Managing Director added that the project is part of efforts to position Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), as the preferred regional aviation hub stating that, “The refurbishment and facelift of the T1B and 1C aim to align the passenger experience in these terminals to match what is offered at T1A.”
