Korean manufacturer Samsung marks the 10-year anniversary of its Galaxy S phone series with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S10, S10+, S10 5G and S10e. Samsung seeks to defend its title as the world’s top smartphone brand and with the impressive specifications on the new phones; edge-to-edge screens with almost no bezels at all, the incredible ability to wirelessly charge another device (as long as the other device has the wireless charge feature), Infinity-O displays that come with small circles to make room for front-facing cameras, the world’s first ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint readers, which unlock the phones via sound waves, up to four rear cameras (on the S10 5G model), 1TB , the all new One UI, Android Pie, cutting edge Snapdragon 855 processors and 5G capabilities (on the 5G model). It appears Samsung is light years ahead of the competition.
Samsung Galaxy S10e
The Galaxy S10e is Samsung’s ‘affordable’ S10 and answer to Apple’s XR. It sports a 5.8 inch AMOLED Gorilla Glass 6 display on a body which is shorter and thinner than last year’s Galaxy S9. The difference between the S10e and the other s10 models is the smaller display, only two rear cameras; the wide and ultra wide sensors. There is no third rear camera which would have been the telephoto lens and no in screen fingerprint reader. It also has a single 10-megapixel selfie camera like its big brother the S10. It also sports a flat screen as opposed to the curved screens on the S10 and S10+. Its sensor is on the power button on the phone’s right side. It comes with a 3,100mAh battery, the oh so sweet headphone jack, as well as 8GB RAM.
The Samsung Galaxy S10e will retail in Kenya for 78,999ksh.
Samsung Galaxy S10
The Galaxy S10 comes with a curved 6.1 inch AMOLED screen in a very compact frame thanks to very slim bezels on the sides. Samsung says this is the first screen to get the HDR10+ certification. The HDR10+ is the company’s format that competes with Dolby Vision.
Three cameras are on the back of the S10. A 12-megapixel dual aperture main camera with OIS wide-angle lens, a 16 megapixel ultrawide sensor with fixed focus and a 12 megapizel telephoto lens with OIS that can achieve 2x optical zoom.
There is a 10-megapixel camera in front with dual aperture for selfies. Dual aperture means that the front facing camera will automatically let in more light when it senses you are in low light environment. It also has a 3,400mAh battery and yes! The headphone jack, as well as 8GB RAM.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 will retail in Kenya for 95,999ksh.
Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus
The Galaxy S10 Plus comes with a larger 6.4 inch curved AMOLED display, 12GB RAM and a much bigger 4,100 mAh battery. There is a triple camera setup at the back, just like the smaller S10, but the S10 Plus adds a second selfie lens in front; an 8-megapixel sensor.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus will retail in Kenya for 127,999ksh.
The Galaxy Buds
The first 1,000 preorders of the Samsung Galaxy S10e, S10 and S10 Plus will come with the Samsung Galaxy Buds with cost 139$ FREE. Good deal right?
The Galaxy Buds support wireless charging, which will go hand in hand with the reverse wireless charging feature that comes with the new Galaxy S10 models.
While currently available for preorder, the Galaxy S10 models are expected to hit the market on March 8th.
