Cancelling Your SGR Train Ticket(s) Online
Now you may or may not already know this, but if you book online, you can cancel your SGR train ticket before making any payment. This is because with this method cancelling your SGR ticket, is system dependent and automated before any payment is made. While the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR)’s Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section one it’s official website did not offer much in the way of online ticket cancellations, here is what you should know:
If you have begun the process for booking your ticket online, but have not made any payment, the SGR’s system will automatically cancel your booking because you have or did not make payments for your bookings within the first 2 minutes.
It also applies to the “Pay later”. If no payment is made by the grace period given, your ticket will automatically be cancelled.
Calling The SGR Booking Office To Cancel Your Ticket
You can also cancel your SGR train ticket by calling the SGR booking office via this number; +254 709388888.
Through that number, you can inform them of your ticket cancellation request. The booking office will then proceed to take your details as well as all the necessary particulars and also inform you of everything you need to know about cancelling your SGR train ticket.
Going To An SGR Terminus To Cancel Your Ticket(s)
Another way to cancel your SGR train ticket, is to go to one of the booking offices. Once there, you can inform the cashiers at the office of your intention to cancel.
If you had booked your SGR tickets online, you will be required to print out the initial ticket. Below are the steps:
- First, print out your SGR ticket. Doing this will require you to utilize the ticket information that was sent to you via SMS or online).
- Next, present your print out at any of the counters at the SGR booking office.
Once done, present your identifying documents which could be your Passport number or ID, to the booking officer and inform him or her, of your decision to cancel your SGR ticket. - Next, you will be required to pay a 20% fine (600 Kenyan Shillings for First Class tickets or 200 Kenyan Shillings for Second Class tickets).
If you do not have the required amount with you however, you can decide to have the 20% fine deducted from the money you paid for your ticket. This means that your refund will be 80% of the initial sum you paid.
