Instructions For Applying For An e-Visa To India
- The Indian e-Visa, has 3 sub-categories which are the e-Tourist visa, the e-Business Visa and the e-Medical visa.
- All Applicants for the Indian e-visa must apply online a minimum 4 days before the estimated date of arrival.
- For international Travellers whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, i.e sight seeing or visiting family or friends, as well as short duration medical treatment or casual business visits, their passports should have at least six months validity from the date of arrival in India. It should also have at least two blank pages for stamping by the Immigration Officer.
- International Travellers should have return ticket or onward journey ticket, with proof of sufficient funds to spend during their stay in India.
- The validity of each Indian e-Visa will be 60 days from the date of arrival in India. Double entry is however permitted for e-Business visas as well as e-Tourist Visas. Triple entry is only permitted on e-Medical Visa.
- Travellers must carry the Yellow Fever Card and present it at the time of arrival in India. The Yellow Fever Card can be acquired at You can get this at City hall in Nairobi, Aga Khan hospital, at City Hall in Nairobi, as well as the Centre For Tropical and Travel Medicine which is near Adams Arcade opposite Nairobi Women hospital.
Documents Required When Applying For An Indian e-Visa
For the e-Tourist Visa application ensure that you have:
- Scanned Bio page of your passport in PDF format. The Bio page will contain your photograph as well as your full name, passport number and other details.
- A passport sized photo of yourself in JPG format.
For e-Medical Visa application ensure that you have:
- Scanned Bio page of your passport in PDF format. The Bio page will contain your photograph as well as your full name, passport number and other details.
- A copy of the Letter received from the Hospital you will be visiting for medical care in India. The letter should contain the hospital’s letterhead.
- A passport sized photo of yourself in JPG format.
For e-Business Visa application ensure that you have:
- Scanned Bio page of your passport in PDF format. The Bio page will contain your photograph as well as your full name, passport number and other details.
- A Copy of your Business Card.
- A passport sized photo of yourself in JPG format.
Once you have the above documents, you can proceed to process your Indian e-visa application by:
- Visiting the official website https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/Registration
- Filling the form on the site and uploading your documents (passport’s, bio data page in PDF format, your photo (JPEG), etc and making payments using your VISA card or Mastercard. The fee for an Indian e-visa is $80.
- Once your payment has been confirmed you will received the E-visa in your email.
- Proceed to print the e-visa and carry it when you travel to India. Please ensure that you carry your Yellow Fever card too.
- Before starting your journey, make sure you confirm that the status of your Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA), is shown as ‘GRANTED’.
