According to reports the United States government has released a travel alert on Kenya as a result of an increase in the nation’s COVID-19 cases.
The United States embassy through a statement on its Kenyan website revealed that the government of Kenya eased up travel restrictions, as well as stay at home directives and business operation hours.
The statement reads, “Reconsider travel to Kenya due to COVID-19……The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice for Kenya due to COVID-19.” It added that, “Travelers at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 should consider postponing all travel, including essential travel, to Kenya.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issues the Level 3 Travel Health Notice, as its highest health risk level. It lets travellers know, that the country mentioned is of utmost risk and implies that said country has not put in place the necessary precautions that would help protect citizens and travellers alike from infections.
The Level 3 Travel Health Notice usually means that all United States citizens looking to travel, should avoid the affected areas at all costs.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) included Kenya in its official level 3 list, stating that the risk of COVID-19 infections are very high. There are 208 other countries on the list as well including the african countries; South Sudan, Djibouti, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Ethiopia, and Uganda.
The notice also claimed that if travellers got infected or sick in Kenya, limited resources may affect the quality and effectiveness of medical care.
United States’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) further advised that any flights or travel to Kenya, should be undertaken only in cases of emergencies regarding family, humanitarian aid work, or medical reasons.
Also included in the statement was a section which reads, “Older adults, people of any age with certain underlying medical conditions, and others at increased risk for severe illness should consider postponing all travel, including essential travel, to Kenya.”
On Sunday the 9th of August 2020 the East African giant; Kenya, recorded a total of 599 new COVID-19 cases. This brought the nation’s cases to a total of 26,436.
Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary; Mutahi Kagwe also revealed that the nation’s total number of COVID-19 deaths now stood at 420.
The United States on the other hand, now has over 5 million people infected with tge Coronavirus. This is according to Reuters.
As it stands, 1 out of every 66 individuals in the United States are infected. This is the highest number of Coronavirus cases in the world.
The United States has also recorded 160,000 deaths to Coronavirus. This is a quarter of the world’s total Coronavirus deaths.
