Africa’s number 1 music streaming and download service Boomplay, has signed a direct licensing agreement with Global Giant; Warner Music Group to bring the record company’s diverse global roster of music to ten African countries.
The terms of the partnership will allow Boomplay to distribute Warner Music’s rather extensive catalogue of more than one million songs to its community of listeners in ten (10) African countries which are Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
The deal will also provide Warner Music Group’s artists with direct access and exposure to Boomplay’s millions of users in the region, while bringing Boomplay one step closer to its ultimate goal of bringing all music from around the world to Africa.

EVP of Warner Music Group for Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, Alfonso Perez-Soto added that the establishment (Warner Music) is “Happy to partner with Boomplay to bring our amazing artists’ music to millions of listeners across Africa. The streaming service already has tremendous reach across the continent, yet they continue to expand exponentially. It’s an opportunity that cannot be missed for our artists to make a whole new legion of fans.”
In the past year, Boomplay has been on quite a roll, announcing landmark deals with global major labels like Universal Music, as well as its acquisition of millions of new users monthly in addition to releasing an iOS version in December of 2018.
The service was first launched in 2015 and is under the joint ownership of two Chinese companies; Transsion Holdings and leading internet technology company NetEase – as part of their Transsnet Music Limited Joint Venture.
With more and more major labels coming on board, Boomplay says it is now in a strong position to further improve its service offerings and defend its Number One position on the African Continent.
As of February 2019, Boomplay had more than 42 million users as and boasts of a very expansive catalogue consisting of five million songs and thousands of videos from local and international acts.
Warner Music is home to International acts such as Wiz Khalifa, Ed Sheeran, Camila Camellia, Jason Derulo, to mention a few.
