Back in February of 2022 African financial technology behemoth; Flutterwave, made it known at an event, that it would be integrating Apple Pay and Google Pay into its variety of payment options. The bold announcement was made not long after it had successfully raised 250 million United States Dollars (USD) which is around 3.13 billion Kenyan Shillings when converted.
Now less than 1 year after that declaration users of the global payment service; Google Pay, will now be able to utilize it for transactions with all merchants on Flutterwave’s stores.
The news is coming not long after the fintech giant’s successful integration of the e-Naira which is Nigeria’s official digital currency, into its platform. The move almost instantaneously made it possible for sellers and buyers to carry out transactions using the cryptocurrency directly.
Flutterwave, continues to stay true to its mission of making sure that swift, easy and readily accessible payment solutions are available to its users.
Alphabet’s Google Pay makes use of the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to enable the successful transfer of funds to retailers in physical stores. It was created with the main purpose of guaranteeing that payments for users are contactless, seamless and safe.
With Google Pay, users are able to store their card details into the Google Wallet service and also carry out in app purchases as well as other online payment transactions.
Google Pay which is currently a broadly accepted payment option on the African continent, is also available in 42 countries worldwide to all its users via Android tablets, Android smartwatches, and Android phones. The decision by Flutterwave to integrate with Google Pay to make it even more available to its (Flutterwave’s) users on the African continent is a step in the right direction.
With the move, all Google Pay users all over the world will now be able to make payments to businesses on Flutterwave quickly and with ease. The current average transaction completion time is three (3) minutes.
The pan African fintech company; Flutterwave, believes that the integration will help curb the present cart abandonment rate for online businesses on Flutterwave.
The Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Flutterwave; Olugbenga Agboola made known his belief that the company’s integration with Google Pay will make it easier for customers worldwide to connect with the businesses on Flutterwave.
In his words, “The continued and rapid growth of Flutterwave is due to our commitment to building a platform with simplified payments for everyone. The GooglePay payment option will attract more international customers and increase the current success rates for businesses on Flutterwave. Integrating with Google pay will allow users across the globe to participate in the booming e-commerce ecosystem in Africa. It will enable us to further fulfil our promise of creating endless possibilities for all.”
It is important to keep in mind that the integration is not currently automatic. As such, any of the 30,000 merchants on Flutterwave’s platform that would like to utilize Google Pay will have to opt in manually from their dashboards.
