For a selected number of English Language pages Social Media Giant; Facebook has begun testing a number of new features. This is coming after the platform previously carried out testing on accounts for celebrities.
One of the new features being tested, is an entirely different layout for the mobile app versions. This layout will ensure that the focus will be on the name of the Facebook Page, the page’s follower count as well as its description.
According engadget.com, the layouts being tested will look a little like profile pages on Twitter and Facebook owned Instagram.
What this means is that Facebook Pages will look more like profiles on social media as opposed to how they looked before which was quite similar to a web page. The ‘Page Transparency’ and ‘About’ parts of the page will now be replaced by Stories as well as the Page’s details.
The new Facebook Page design will also do away with showing number of page likes. It will also be removing the ‘Like’ button. The speculated reason according techcrunch.com, is that the number of Likes a Page has is not a reliable benchmark. This is because users on Facebook could like a page and then proceed to unfollow it.
The Follower count on the other hand, is a much more accurate representation of exactly how many people receive or see the Facebook Page’s posts on their timeline/Feed. As a result it helps you know the page’s reach a lot better than the likes do.
The social media giant in addition to the new layout for Facebook pages, will also be given a certain number of Facebook Page managers or owners, access to new account management features. These features will also make it easier for the managers or owners to go between their public pages and personal accounts seamlessly. They will also be able to manage and also assign admin access permissions to their Facebook Pages a lot easier.
Facebook Page managers and or owners will also be able to gain access to their new insights, in addition to data regarding their Page’s audience in connection with the page’s Instagram account (if it has one) as well as the Page’s top performing posts.
Facebook might move to increase the tests, depending on whether or not current tests yield great results. There is a chance however that these new features being tested, might never make it to official feature status.
Fingers crossed though.
