Subsidiary of Emirates Group; has increased the number of weekly cargo flights it carries out to Kenya’s capital of Nairobi. The airline will now carry out 10 cargo flights to Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport every week.
The decision was made by the airline which is the official flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates, as a response to the growing demand from horticulture exporters for freight services.
As a result of this the added cargo flights, are expected to help farmers in Kenya sell their goods to international markets, faster and more frequently, while also helping to boost the nation’s overall exports and economic recuperation.
A large number of airlines have reassigned their planes from being passenger planes to being cargo planes as a result of the still ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, and the subsequent reduction in passenger travel.
Emirates which is the United Arab Emirate’ largest airline, is one of those carriers that have began to focus of freight services.
According to the airline, “Emirates SkyCargo has ensured that adequate cargo capacity remains available on its wide body aircraft during the Covid-19 pandemic for the transport of urgent medical supplies as well as food items.”
It has so far increased its network of cargo flights from 35 destinations in March of 2020, to a total of 130 destinations in October of 2020.
