On Wednesday the 21st of October 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta oversaw the launching of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK)’s Kisii Centre.
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK)’s Kisii Centre will be benefit seven counties in the region. These counties include Bomet, Kericho, Migori, Narok, Nyamira, Homa Bay, and of course Kisii.
It is expected to help individuals in the region get access to a vast array of services easier and more conveniently as opposed to having to commute to other regions just to get access to said services.
For a region that contributes around 12 percent of Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and has a population of more than 7 million, the Kisii Centre is a very welcome development.
Its launch is seen as proof of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK)’s dedication to providing services to the Kenyan people. It is also expected to development in Kenya, and encourage successful devolution.
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK)’s present network consists of centres Meru, Nakuru, Nyeri and now Kisii, as well as branches in on Eldoret, Mombasa, and Kisumu.
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK)’s Kisii Centre was been set up in partnership with the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA). It is situated at the Absa Bank facilities which is opposite the Kisii County Government offices.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK); Dr. Patrick Njoroge made it known via a statement that, “CBK appreciates the support of KBA, Absa Bank, the Kisii County Government, and other agencies.”
The Kisii Centre will be offering a vast array of services which will include general banking services to county governments, opportunities to invest in Government securities like bonds and treasury bills, as well as currency services to the general public and to bank branches in the region too.
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK)’s Kisii Centre is packed with state of the art IT and various tech needed in the handling of currency. It is equipped with solar panels on the roof to ensure that it has adequate power supply at all times. It will also be able to send back the excess power to the national grid.
