Airtel Africa has chosen former Vodacom Tanzania executive Ian Ferrao as the new regional director of its East African department.
Ian Ferrao who is a senior manager with over 12 years of experience in telecommunication roles, will take over the position which presided over 6 of the 14 African countries where Airtel Africa runs its operations.
The Chief Executive Officer Of Airtel Africa; Raghunath Mandava said, “He brings a wealth of relevant telecommunications and mobile money experience within the region and will be an asset to the business.”
Mr. Mandava added that, “He will be part of the Africa Executive Committee based in Nairobi and will focus on driving growth across voice, data and mobile money in East Africa.”
Ian Ferrao had previously worked as the Chief Executive Officer of Vodacom Tanzania and Vodacom Lesotho and worked at both firms for an average of 3 years each, from 2013 to 2015 at Vodacom Lesotho and from 2015 to 2018 for Vodacom Tanzania.
After leaving Vodacom Tanzania in September 2018, Ian Ferrao has been on a career break. Vodacom Tanzania then sought the services of the current Safaricom Chief Customer Officer Sylvia Mulinge to fill up his position, but she was unfortunately denied a work permit.
Ian Ferrao who holds a First Class Honours Degree in BSc Management Sciences from the Warwick Business School, will oversee Airtel Africa’s operations in Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
