Multilateral development finance institution; Africa Development Bank during its annual General Meeting (conducted virtually this time), has re-elected Akinwumi Adesina as its President.
During this the electronic vote which was held on the 27th of August 2020, the president elect won his second five year tenure. He was also the sole candidate in this year’s election.
The Africa Development Bank President made it known that in the past five years he has moved towards accelerating development in Africa. Advanced agricultural technology aimed at improving food security has been made available to 141 million people in Africa, an additional 18 million people have been given access to electricity, 60 million people have been given access to sanitation and water, 101 million people now benefit from better transportation and 15 million are now able to access financing.
Akinwumi Adesina had previously been hit with abuse of office and gross misconduct allegations. The Ethics Committee of Africa Development Bank as well as its Board of Governors, cleared the president of any wrongdoing.
An independent probe was conducted on the 28th of July that also cleared the President elect of all allegations.
