A charging station specifically for electric cars has now been launched in Naivasha by real estate company; Dowgate Properties making it the first electric car charging station to be set up outside Nairobi and another indicator of the steadily growing electric car market.
The newly launched electric car charging station is situated at Naivasha Safari Centre which is the new shopping mall by Dowgate Properties and located along the Nairobi – Nakuru highway.
The Naivasha Safari Centre’s largest tenant, is Naivas Supermarket.
The real estate company; Dowgate Properties will now be joining the ranks of other electric car thinking companies like Drive Electric and ChargeNet who have both created electric car charging stations in Nairobi, Kenya.
Kenya Power and Lighting Company, which is more commonly known as Kenya Power or KPLC and is the Electricity Distributor in Kenya, has made it known that it is equipped to work with electric mobility companies through the supply of electricity for the charging of their batteries.

The Founder and Director of Dowgate Properties; James Hoddell stated that, “Car ownership and travelling have changed completely in the last decade and are set to change even more as Kenyans…. also begin to shift towards electric vehicles (EVs).”
There has been a gradual build up in Kenya for the use of electric vehicles in the country. This is occurring at a time when there have been growing interests into solutions for clean energy so as to put a halt to the impacts of the ongoing climate change.
Companies which have set up shop in Kenya include Opibus, Kiri, and BasiGo.
Opibus which is a Swedish-Kenyan electric mobility company based in Nairobi, Kenya converts Petrol vehicles and Diesel vehicles as well as motorcycle engines, into electric version.

Kiri which is an electric vehicle startup based in Nairobi, Kenya, manufactures electric motorcycles.
BasiGo which is an e-mobility start-up looking to revolutionize the public transportation sector by providing public transport bus owners with a cost-effective electric alternative to diesel and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, is introducing new generation buses that are eco friendly with the aim of reducing the carbon emissions in major places in Kenya like Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, and Nairobi.
The Naivasha Safari Centre, is the first mall built by Dowgate Properties and also has play areas for children, and eateries.
