The alcohol products, which were packed in 10 litre bottles and branded; ‘Fiesta Special Ice’, have a total market value of 12 million Kenyan Shillings. They were were impounded at a Thika-based plant in Kiambu County.

The multi-agency team had received intelligence information which revealed that a six wheeler lorry was carrying alcoholic drinks with excise stamps that were suspected to be fake.

The lorry was subsequently intercepted. Upon further verification it was discovered that the products it was transporting did have counterfeit or fake excise stamps.

The lorry was then taken to the factory where the illicit alcoholic drinks were being manufactured. Once there, more casks with fake excise stamps were confiscated.

After a verification exercise which was executed at the factory it was discovered that the manufacturer also operates two parallel production lines.

One of the production lines was hidden in a building close by and did not have an excise license. The other production line had Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) excise licenses.

The multi-agency team subsequently secured the premises as further investigation went on and impounded all the the products that were counterfeit.
