The Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) has set transport rates of between Sh15 and Sh17.79 per tonne per kilometre for the delivery of fertilizer to its managed tea factories.
Under the approved rates, farmers in Zone A factories will pay Sh17.79 per tonne per kilometre, inclusive of VAT, while those in Zones B and C will pay Sh15 per tonne per kilometre.
The rates follow a tender issued by KTDA in April 2026 for the transportation of bagged fertilizer from Nairobi to various KTDA-managed tea factories.
KTDA said it has already finalized the procurement process for 99,000 metric tonnes of bagged fertilizer destined for its managed tea processing factories.
The first fertilizer consignment is expected to arrive in August 2026.
“Transporters who participated in the tender and are willing to accept this offer are hereby invited to collect and sign contract documents from the office of the Head of Field Services & Agriculture located on the 10th Floor of Majani Plaza, Koinange Street, Nairobi. The actual fertilizer arrival date will be communicated to the contracted transporters,” KTDA said.
The agency said transporters must provide trucks with a carrying capacity of 15 tonnes and above and ensure the vehicles are registered in the owner’s or company’s name, among other requirements.
KTDA, which is owned by more than 600,000 smallholder tea farmers, manages 71 tea factories across 16 counties and accounts for more than 55 percent of Kenya’s tea production.
