    As Market Turnover Rises NSE Futures Trading Records 452,000 Kenyan Shillings

    On Tuesday the 23rd Of July 2019, the Derivatives Market at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) saw an increase to 452,560 Kenyan Shillings.

    The increase was boosted by activity in East African Breweries Limited (EABL), Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Safaricom, single future contracts.

    On Monday the 22nd of July 2017, the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) derivatives market, referred to as NEXT, had posted a total value of 201,220 Kenyan Shillings.

    Tuesday’s trading saw Safaricom transact a total of 14 contracts for a value of 392,160 Kenyan Shillings. East African Breweries Limited (EABL) and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) had one contract each, for a value of 20,200 Kenyan Shillings and 42,200 Kenyan Shillings, respectively.

    The 16 deals are all for contracts set to expire on the 19th of September 2019.

    Safaricom’s futures traded at a share price of 28 Kenyan Shillings as against a closing price of 27.25 Kenyan Shillings on the spot market.

    Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) registered 40.20 Kenyan Shillings in the derivatives as against 39.85 Kenyan Shillings in the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) equity market, while East African Breweries Limited (EABL)’s futures were at 202 Kenyan Shillings as against 191 Kenyan Shillings on the spot market.

    At the equity turnover, market value increased to 525 million Kenyan Shillings, against the previous session’s figure of 265 million Kenyan Shillings.

    The number of shares traded stood at 28.8 million as against the 8.4 million stocks traded on Monday the 22nd of July 2019.

    Banks however, were Tuesday’s biggest traders, even though Safaricom came out on top as the highest trading firm at the bourse.

    The banking sector had shares worth 299 million Kenyan Shillings, accounting for 56.96% of Tuesday’s traded value.

    Barclays Bank actively moved 15.5 million shares which were valued at 159 million Kenyan Shillings at between 10.25 Kenyan Shillings and 10.40 Kenyan Shillings.

    Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Group rose up 5cents to 39.85 Kenyan Shillings, and in the process moved 2.3 million shares valued at 94 million Kenyan Shillings.

    Equity Group Holdings moved 920,000 shares worth 37 million Kenyan Shillings and closed at 40.60 Kenyan Shillings.

    Safaricom on the other hand moved 6.8 million shares valued at 187 million Kenyan Shillings at between 27.20 Kenyan Shillings and 28 Kenyan Shillings, this represented 35.63% of the day’s traded value.

    The Bond market on the other hand, had bonds worth 3.7 billion Kenyan Shillings transacted, jumping from 3 billion Kenyan Shillings recorded previously.
