2018 will forever be remembered as the year when Tecno Mobile; Africa’s leading smartphone brand, abandoned the launch of its known Phantom flagship smartphone series in favour of the midrange to budget device offerings that have taken hold both in the Kenyan market and in other parts of the African continent, where the Transsion Holdings the parent company of Tecno, has a presence.
While time will inevitable tell us whether or not Tecno’s decision to stop its Flagship Phantom range is or was the best one. That however, does not reduce the allure of Tecno. I mean let’s face it for anyone looking to purchase an android device, Tecno is and will for the foreseeable future, continue to be a force to reckon with. From its midrange and super affordable, pocket friendly devices (a factor very many of us seriously consider), beautiful designs, to the surprisingly impressive specs come with, you are almost always spoilt for choice.
In that regard and as we wait for Tecno to unveil new offerings, here are three smartphones (both old and recent) by the company, you should consider in 2019.
Tecno Pouvoir 2
This beast packs a 6-inch HD+ display, a 13MP back camera, an 8MP front camera, 16GB in built storage capacity, a 2GB RAM, a MediaTek (MT6737) processor and a whopping 5,000 mAh battery. Tecno’s software optimization, ensures that you can use the device for days, on a single charge.
At 14,100 kenyan shillings (On Jumia), it just might be The One for you maybe?
The Pouvoir 2 comes in City Blue, Midnight Black and Champagne Gold.
Tecno Spark 2
The Tecno Spark 2 comes with a 6 inch HD+ 1440 X 720 display, a 13MP back camera with a Triple LED Ring Flash as well as a 5MP front facing camera with a Dual LED Flash, a MediaTek MT6580WP processor, a 3,500 mAh battery and Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition).
While some android gurus are not impressed with Android Go, saying due to performance, it does not live up to Google’s hype around it at 10,599 kenyan shillings (on Jumia), it is hard to hate the Tecno Spark 2.
It comes in Bordeaux Red, Midnight Black, Champagne Gold and City Blue.
Tecno Camon 11 Pro
Although it is the latest offering from Tecno (at least on our list), it might not exactly be the best one.
But hey, at the end of the day, it all boils down to personal preference.
The Camon 11 Pro comes with a 6.2 inch HD+ 1500 x 720p Super FullView Display, 16MP and 5MP cameras at the back with Quad Flash, a 24MP front facing camera, a MediaTek MT6739 processor, 6GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, Android 8,1 Oreo Operating System and a battery capacity of 3,750 mAh.
The Camon 11 Pro retails for 24,799 kenyan shillings on Jumia Kenya. While the device is currently sold out on Jumia Kenya’s official website, it should be available for purchase soon.
Camon 11 Pro only comes in one colour; Nebula Black.
