The official 2025 Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) results are out! Over 1.13 million Grade 9 students across the country can now see how they performed and where they’ll be placed for senior school. This is all part of the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba said you can get their results through official ways. These include a special website and a text message service for people who can’t get online.
How to Check Results Online
Parents, learners, and teachers can view individual KJSEA results online via the Ministry of Education’s official results portal:
- Visit the website: https://selection.education.go.ke/my-selections or https://kjsea.knec.ac.ke.
- Enter required details: Provide the learner’s unique Assessment Number and one registered name (as used during registration).
- Submit and view results: Once entered, the portal will display detailed performance data, including subject outcomes and school placement information.
- Save or print: Users are advised to save or print their result slip for future use. Schools will also issue printed copies.
The online portal is designed to handle high traffic, but some users may experience delays due to the volume of access immediately after release.
How to Check via SMS
For parents and guardians without reliable internet, KJSEA results — including selected senior schools and pathways — can be accessed through an SMS service:
- Send the learner’s Assessment Number to 22263. Each SMS costs KSh 30.
- Users will receive a return message with the learner’s result details and senior school placement guidance.
Safaricom PLC, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, activated the SMS channel to ensure broad accessibility across urban and rural areas, particularly where data access may be limited.
The KJSEA results, aligned with the CBC system, show how well students did in their main subjects and suggest the best senior school courses of study for them, among other details.:
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics)
- Social Sciences
- Arts & Sports Sciences
Unlike the old KCPE scoring system, the KJSEA does not produce an aggregate score but instead places emphasis on competencies across subjects. This means learners are assessed on what they know and can do, rather than a single total score.
Next Steps After Checking Results
Once results are accessed:
- Placement letters for senior schools are expected to be released before Christmas (by Dec. 20, 2025).
- Reporting to schools starts on January 12, 2026, when the new academic year begins.
- Families are encouraged to prepare for transition logistics, including school fees, accommodation, and learning materials.
Important Reminders
- Use official channels only: Beware of fraudsters or fake websites claiming to offer early or “guaranteed” results access — only the Ministry’s portals and the 22263 SMS service are legitimate.
- Double-check Assessment Number and name spelling to avoid errors when accessing results.
The announcement of the 2025 KJSEA results is a significant step in the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). This curriculum emphasizes learners’ overall development and guides them towards senior school paths that best match their talents and future goals.
